Camp Green Lane Blog Post July 11th
Today was Olympics, one of the single most exciting days of the summer.
For our Olympics, we split the entire camp into four teams. This year, the teams represented the four food groups with Dairy, Fruit, Meat and Veggies competing in a series of activities to determine a winner for the day.
Olympics is a Camp Green Lane tradition we hold every summer. This morning, we held the opening ceremonies, featuring the lighting of the Olympic Torch. The flame is ceremoniously carried around lower camp by former Camper Captains. The torch makes its way to BB1, where all 4 teams have assembled.
After the torch was lit, the eight captains participated in a Fear Factor event to kick off the day. They had to eat a compartmentalized plate with icky and gnarly looking foods from all the groups. From Fear Factor, everyone breaks off into divisional activities for the day.
Olympics is a fun competition with events consisting of wacky and wild relays and four-way contests. The Inter Girls and Debs played Slip N Slide Relays, Sea Hunt (an underwater scavenger hunt), and a human-size version of Hungry, Hungry Hippos. Inter Boys and Cadets did a Sea Hunt, held Wacky Relay Races, also did a Slip N Slide Relay and played Hungry, Hungry Hippos. Senior Boys and Girls and Greeks participated in the Obstacle Course, did a Water Balloon Toss, played Slip N Slide Kickball, and had their traditional Tugs of War on the lawn.
Everybody in camp participated in a game of All God’s Children, otherwise known as the shoe game where you have to find your own and tie them and get back in line before the other teams.
Lunch was a hot dog cookout as always, and dinner will be chicken wings. The annual Wing Bowl is held later between the Greeks and it will all come down to the Sing tonight at the Olympic Dance on BB1.
It’s anyone’s Olympics. Dairy, Fruit, Meat and Veggies are all working on their songs, so be sure to check back later tonight to see who wins Olympics 2024!
