Camp Green Lane Blog Summer 2022
Happy Thursday from Camp Green Lane!!!!
We can’t believe that summer is truly here and that your excited campers will be here the day after tomorrow. Even as a first-time CGL newbie, I can sense the anticipation around camp just waiting for all of our campers to arrive.
My name is Kate Cohen, and I have the pleasure of sharing our CGL summer with you here on this blog. I’ve married into the CGL life (my husband is program director Jesse Cohen) and this is my first ever summer at sleepaway camp. I never considered myself a summer camp kind of gal, but after watching Jesse thrive at camp from afar last summer, I couldn’t resist experiencing it for myself this time around.
I can assure you that throughout this past week’s orientation, I have experienced a lot of the same things your first-time camper may be experiencing; I’ve been nervous, homesick, and overwhelmed by taking such a big leap outside of my comfort zone.
Let me reassure you that a lot of those challenging feelings have been met with nothing but warm welcomes, enthusiastic spirit, and a kindness and humor that seem unique to this environment. Sure, accommodations are rustic, but it isn’t until you are here and engaging in the CGL lifestyle that you realize it’s all part of the charm of this magical place. Who wants to be in your cabin when all the fun is happening outside anyway?!
At home in Orlando, I am a middle school theatre teacher. When we teach improv, we always start with the most important rule: Always say “Yes, and…”. This means that when you are offered an opportunity, you accept it and continue to add to the experience to make it better for everyone. This is the summer of “Yes, and…”
So whether your camper is lying awake at night beaming with excitement about arriving to camp or maybe feeling a little nervous about what is to come, I promise you that our incredible staff and wonderful team of counselors are here waiting and ready to welcome them to Camp Green Lane.
Two more sleeps until camp!!!
