This past Sunday, the Greek division participated in a community service project with JRA, the Jewish Relief Agency. The Jewish Relief Agency is a volunteer-driven organization whose goal is to help Jews in need. Since it’s founding in Philadelphia in 2000, JRA has been bringing the community together each month in the sprit of tikkun olam and repairing the world. The campers of Gamma, Sigma, Alpha and Delta all took a bus into Northeastern Philadelphia to one of the JRA warehouses, where they packed boxes with food and other daily essentials. The Greek division aims to participate in a community service project such as this one every summer, as they all feel as though giving back to the community is a very important and fulfilling experience.

The second aspect of the JRA experience was hand-delivering the boxes we had just put together to members of the Jewish community who were in need. The experience of being able to personally deliver these boxes to these individuals was very rewarding, as we were able to see how happy this simple action of giving back to the community made them. Their reactions and gratitude made this experience all the more worth while.

Following our visit to JRA, we boarded the bus and went down to Spruce Street Harbor Park, a new attraction in Center City Philadelphia.  Here, we walked around for around two hours, swinging in hammocks, enjoying local food trucks, shopping at artist’s booths, and taking in the scenery of the harbor. Over all, it was an awesome and rewarding day that many of us will remember for years to come.
