Camp Green Lane Summer Blog Post July 1st

, July 1, 2017

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Rose Gersten and I am the camp mom. This is my first summer at Camp Green Lane. You’re probably wondering ‘what does that mean? The camp mom?’  When your children come into the infirmary, I am usually the first face they see- I am here to help the phenomenal medical staff, give hugs and support to kids that need it, run them to doctor’s appointments, and unfortunately, if needed, take campers to the emergency room when needed.  In just a short week, I have truly felt what it means to be a member of the Green Lane family.

At the end of last summer when the day camp I attended and worked at for 29 years closed, I was a little concerned about where my daughters and I would end up this summer.  After meeting Uncle Adam and Uncle Jay over the winter and hearing them describe what CGL is like and the family feel, I knew that this would be the right place for us.  From the moment I pulled up at staff orientation, everyone has been so welcoming and friendly.  People have gone out of their way to make sure that I feel comfortable and am doing well.  On the first day, I stood at the porch of the office and watched the counselors wait anxiously in the circle for the campers to arrive- the excitement and energy was palpable.  As the buses pulled in and I saw campers, both new and seasoned, walk off the buses, I got a certain feeling inside.  It was so hard to describe, but I immediately knew I made the best decision and this is where my girls and I belong.

As the first week wraps up, the family feel has continued.  I have gotten to know many campers and see their smiling faces all over camp, I have hugged and come to love the campers as if they are my own children, and am beginning to make lasting friendships myself. Camp Green Lane is not just a camp to me; it is now my home and will be for many more years!

Yours in camping,

Aunt Rose
